BRIAN M. BOONE
Brian Boone received a Bachelor of Arts in Economics and Accounting
from Claremont McKenna College (CMC) in 1986. The summer before
his senior year at CMC, he served as an intern in the Sacramento
office of Touche Ross, one of the "Big Eight" international accounting
and consulting firms at that time. After graduating from CMC, Brian
began his career with Touche Ross, assisting in the audits of large
commercial entities including banks, savings and loans, government
agencies and municipalities, agricultural concerns, product marketing,
manufacturing, retail, and distribution companies. During his five
years with Touche Ross, Brian steadily advanced within the firm,
finishing his tenure as a supervising senior auditor.
In 1991, Brian left Deloitte & Touche (the successor firm of Touche
Ross) to become Assistant Vice President and Corporate Controller
for Western Sunrise Mortgage Corporation ("WSMC"), a regional wholesale
mortgage banking company serving the Western U.S. He was soon promoted
to Vice President and Chief Financial Officer (CFO), with responsibility
for due diligence, valuing portfolios of mortgage servicing rights
and mortgage origination operations, participating significantly
in company-wide strategic planning and competitive market analysis,
as well as the traditional administrative duties of a CFO. While
at WSMC, Brian participated in complex risk assessment and cash
flow valuation modeling of pools of securitized mortgages and mortgage
servicing rights that are packaged and sold on the "secondary" market.
WSMC grew significantly during Brian's tenure, opening new branch
operations throughout the Western U.S. and reaching in excess of
$1 billion per year in mortgage originations. Brian left WSMC in
1996 after a merger which would have required a move to Denver,
opting instead to stay in Sacramento.
During his final year at WSMC, Brian entered the MBA program at the University of California at Davis Graduate School of Management (UCDGSM). In 1997, he received an MBA with concentrations in both finance and marketing.
In 1996, Brian joined the firm of Schultze, Wallace & O'Neil as a manager. He was hired by David Schultze, his future partner with Schultze, Boone & Silva ("SB&S") (formerly Schultze, Boone & Associates) to manage the litigation support case load. Soon after, Brian joined David as a principal shareholder in SBS.
Brian is a licensed CPA in the State of California, accredited in Business Valuation (ABV) and certified in Financial Forensics (CFF). In addition to his MBA, Brian is a Certified Valuation Analyst ("CVA"),
has been chartered by the CFA Institute (formerly AIMR) as a Chartered
Financial Analyst (CFA®), and has completed the course work required
for certification by the American Society of Appraisers as a Candidate
Member. He has been qualified as an expert and has testified in
court in five counties in California (Sacramento, Placer, El Dorado,
Solano and San Joaquin) and two counties in Nevada (Washoe and Douglas).
Brian has served as the named expert in marital dissolution cases
with marital estates having net worths from $100,000 to $75 million.
He has experience as an expert in all aspects of family law litigation
including business valuations, support issues, characterization
issues, fiduciary issues, facts surrounding pre-nuptial and post-nuptial
agreements, marital property and support settlement structuring
and more.
Brian has also served as an expert providing economic damage calculations in personal injury, wrongful termination, and wrongful death civil actions. He has served as a court approved "turn around" consultant to debtor-in-possession in a large Chapter 11 (reorganization) bankruptcy, has provided valuations for transactional purposes, and has been retained to provide other general business consultations.
Brian believes that a good professional (even one who has been
qualified as an expert) "never stands in one place" and continues
throughout his career to improve his knowledge and skills. He enjoys
the continuing process of learning in the disciplines of finance,
economics, strategic market analysis and accounting and also the
continuing development of his ability to deliver effective testimony.
He thoroughly enjoys the positive atmosphere within the firm and
his relationship with his partner and fellow professionals at SB&S.
While at CMC, Brian was team captain of his college football team and a three-time, all-conference selection at middle linebacker. Brian also served as the resident assistant to the dean of students in his dormitory. Brian credits his educational experience at CMC with providing the foundation for his high level of personal and professional confidence and believes this was the launching point for his continued positive development towards becoming an expert in his field.
Brian enjoys time at home and traveling with his wife and his two sons. He also values his time with his extended family and friends. Brian reads about current events and enjoys novels and books about philosophy. He follows sports on a daily basis and plays an occasional game of golf or cards with friends as time permits.
